A Survey is one of the most effective ways to move beyond simple "yes or no" answers and capture the nuanced feedback, preferences, and ideas of your team in real-time.
Surveys are accessible only from Insights. They are not shown on the Projector, Admin, or Moderator panels, ensuring the respondents’ privacy.

About adding Survey questions
Each question you add to a Survey can be either Multiple choice or Open text.
A question can also have a Category, which is useful for classifying Survey questions. The category displays before the question on the Survey question page.
A Multiple choice question must have at least two answer options. This question type is designed for flexibility:
- To allow participants to enter their own answers, check the box next to Include "Others" option. Once enabled, you can specify the text label for this option.
- You can also specify the minimum and maximum number of answers that participants can select for a question. For example, if you want to require exactly three answers, choose 3 for Min selection and Max selection. The default is 1.
- To allow participants to skip the question, check the box next to Optional question. This choice is also available for Open text questions.
- You can add a text box underneath the survey question. This feature is designed to gather qualitative context alongside quantitative data. Instead of just knowing what a participant chose, you can find out why they chose it. To do this, check the box next to Allow optional comments.

Duplicate a Survey question (Event Pigeonhole only)
When you create a Survey in an Event Session, the Duplicate button allows you to replicate existing questions instantly. Instead of building from scratch, you can leverage your pre-configured settings.
- Standardization: Ensure consistent question styling, response formats (e.g., Star Rating, Scale), and display settings across all survey items.
- Logical Iteration: Quickly create slight variations of a question (e.g., A/B testing phrasing or modifying a single aspect of a multi-part question) without re-entering complex configurations.
- Preservation: Retain specific rules, such as custom answer labels or mandatory field settings, that were already tuned to your requirements.
To use this feature, select the drop-down arrow next to the Edit button for the question, then select Duplicate.

Delete a Survey question
A Survey must have at least one question. After a Survey starts, you will not be able to modify the questions. This limitation is designed to preserve the integrity of the collected responses.
- In an Event Pigeonhole: To delete a Survey question, select the drop-down arrow next to the Edit button for the question, then select Duplicate.
- In a Presentation Pigeonhole: Select the trash can icon next to the question.
Reorder questions
Questions are ordered in the sequence they are added. To change the order, select the handle to the left of the question and drag it to the new position.
Settings
You can change the settings to customise the Survey:
- Anonymous responses: When disabled (default), participants are asked to create a profile when submitting answers. The speaker or presenter can identify participants who submitted answers. When enabled, participants are not identified in the answers they post in the Audience Web App, Panels, and Insights.
- Allow repeated submissions by the same participant: When enabled, participants can submit a Survey multiple times. When disabled, participants can review their completed submission, and are not able to edit their answers.
- Reactions: Allows participants to use emojis to react to moments in your live events, live streams, and on-demand videos. This option displays under More settings. It is available for plans with Reactions enabled. For an Event Pigeonhole, Reactions are available for parent sessions.
-
Display: Controls the presentation of Survey questions. Choosing between the two available options will affect Insights data.
- One question at a time: Questions display one at a time and require an answer to proceed. Since responses are saved progressively, you can identify exactly where incomplete surveys were dropped off—providing a clear data point to gauge participant interest and engagement levels.
- All questions at once (default): Presents the entire Survey on a single page to optimize navigation and completion speed. Note that this layout does not allow for tracking the specific point where a Participant exits the Survey.

Advanced Customisations
For Event Pigeonholes on paid plans
Consider editing the following options in the Advanced Customisations section. These options are available for Event sessions.
- Pre-survey message: A message shown to attendees before the start of the Survey. Use this space to share how responses will be used, as well as the estimated time to complete the Survey. This field is required and pre-filled with basic text by default. Limit: 500 characters. Line breaks are retained. Basic text formatting is supported through Markdown (see Markdown support).
- Post-survey message: This message is shown to attendees upon completion of the survey. Use this space to show a thank you message for completing the survey. This field is required and pre-filled with basic text by default. Limit: 500 characters. Line breaks are retained. Basic text formatting is supported through Markdown (see Markdown support).

View Survey results in Insights
Survey Insights include the following statistics about answers and participants. Users on paid plans can download reports in PDF or Excel format.
- Users: The number of unique participants who took the Survey.
- Pre-survey message: The number of times the introductory message for the Survey triggered. Participants see this message for each new response started.
- Post-survey message: The number of times the completion message for the Survey triggered. This indicates a completed and submitted Survey.
- Answered: The number of participants who entered an answer for the question.
- Did not answer: The number of participants who haven’t yet selected an answer. When the Display mode is One question at a time, this means the Participant left the Survey at this question. When the Display mode is All questions at once, this means the question is not answered and the participant has not submitted the Survey.
- Skipped: When the Display mode is One question at a time, this means the Participant skipped an optional question, and may or may not have submitted the Survey. When the Display mode is All questions at once, this means the Participant skipped an optional question and submitted the Survey to confirm this choice.
