Create a Survey Interactivity

A Survey Interactivity is one of the most effective ways to move beyond simple "yes or no" answers and capture the nuanced feedback, preferences, and ideas of your team in real-time. This article shows you how to add a new Survey Interactivity to a Presentation.

Step 1: Add the Survey

  1. Start a Presentation Pigeonhole by following Steps 1-2 in Create a Presentation Pigeonhole.
  2. If the Survey is the first Interactivity you’re adding to the Presentation, select the Survey card.

The “Add interactivity to presentation” page for a new Presentation. It shows the cards for all the Interactivity types.

If you already added other interactivities, select Add interactivity > Survey.

A new slide is added to the Presentation. A card for the Survey displays in the left sidebar.

  1. In the right sidebar, enter the Survey name.

A new, empty Survey that has been named “Friction Finder Survey”

Step 2: Add the questions

  1. Click inside the Survey question field or select the pencil icon.
    The Survey question page opens.
  2. Select the question Type: Multiple Choice or Open text.
  3. (Optional) Select a Category. This can be useful for classifying Survey questions. The category displays before the question on the Survey question page.
  4. Enter the question in the Question field.
  5. Follow these steps for Multiple Choice questions:
    1. Under Options, enter a set of answers for the question. You must enter at least two possible answers for each question.
    2. (Optional) To allow participants to enter their own answers, check the box next to Include "Others" option. Once enabled, you can specify the text label for this option.
    3. (Optional) You can specify the minimum and maximum number of answers that participants can select for this answer. For example, if you want to require exactly three answers, choose 3 for Min selection and Max selection. The default is 1.
    4. (Optional) To allow participants to skip the question, check the box next to Optional question. This choice is also available for Open text questions.
    5. (Optional) You can add a text box underneath the survey question. This feature is designed to gather qualitative context alongside quantitative data. Instead of just knowing what a participant chose, you can find out why they chose it. To do this, check the box next to Allow optional comments
  6. When you’re finished entering the question and its answers, select Done. Or, to add another Survey question, select Add another question.

Step 3: Configure settings

  1. (Optional) Configure advanced settings as needed:
  • Display: The two display options will result in differing Insights. The choices are:
    • One question at a time: Only one question will be shown at a time. Participants must answer mandatory questions before moving onto the next question. This flow is useful when you want to help participants focus on the question, as well as knowing the drop off paths.
    • All questions at once (default): Participants will be able to see all Survey questions on one page. This gives participants a quick overview of all the questions they must answer. This display is also easier to navigate.
  • Anonymous responses: When disabled (default), participants are asked to create a profile when submitting answers. The organiser can identify participants who submitted answers. When enabled, participants are not identified in the answers they post in the Audience Web App, Panels, and Insights.
  • Allow repeated submissions by the same participant: When enabled, participants can submit a Survey multiple times. When disabled, participants can review their completed submission, and are not able to edit their answers.
  • Reactions: Allows participants to use emojis to react to moments in your live events, live streams, and on-demand videos. This option displays under More settings. It is available for plans with Reactions enabled.

Step 4: Save your work

When you’re finished, select Save changes to save the Survey.

Step 5: Test the Interactivity

View the Survey through the Projector Panel and Audience Web App, or practise hosting through the Admin Panel. To reset your data after testing, hover over the card for the Interactivity and select More options (…) > Clear responses.
