Create a Word Cloud Interactivity

Whether you’re hosting a training or a team brainstorm, a Word Cloud is one of the most effective ways to turn a passive audience into active participants. Instead of just showing data, you can crowdsource it in real-time, watching as the most popular responses grow larger on your slide.

Step 1: Add the Word Cloud

  1. Start a Presentation Pigeonhole by following Steps 1-2 in Create a Presentation Pigeonhole.
  2. If the Word cloud is the first Interactivity you’re adding to the Presentation, select the Word cloud card.

The “Add interactivity to presentation” page for a new Presentation. It shows the cards for all the Interactivity types.

If you already added other interactivities, select Add interactivity > Word cloud.

A new slide with example Word cloud data is added to the Presentation. A card for the Word cloud displays in the left sidebar.

Step 2: Add the question

  1. In the right sidebar, under Question, click inside the Question field and enter the question that participants should answer.

Step 3: Configure settings

  1. (Optional) To ensure your Word cloud remains readable, responses are limited to a maximum of 1 word and 40 characters. These are the default settings, but you can further restrict these limits in the Answer limit section to keep submissions even shorter.
  2. (Optional) Answers per participant are unlimited by default, but you can set a limit using the Allow up to field in the Answers section.
  3. (Optional) Configure advanced settings as needed:
    1. Anonymous responses: When disabled (default), participants are asked to create a profile when submitting answers. The organiser can identify participants who submitted answers. When enabled, participants are not identified in the answers they post in the Audience Web App, Panels, and Insights.
    2. Answer filtering: When enabled, all submitted answers go through moderation on the Admin Panel before they appear on the Word cloud.
    3. Reactions: Enables participants to use emojis to react to moments in your live events, live streams, and on-demand videos. Available for plans with Reactions enabled.

Step 4: Save your work

When you’re finished, select Save changes to save the Word cloud.

Step 5: Test the Interactivity

To see the audience perspective, open the Projector Panel and the Audience Web App. To practise running the session as an organiser, use the Admin Panel.

After testing, you can clear your responses. Hover over the card for the Interactivity, select the More options menu (...), and choose Clear responses.

Word Cloud display and functionalities in the Audience Web App

Using the Audience Web App, participants can submit answers and watch the Word Cloud update live.

To participate, they select Add answer, enter their response (using text or emojis) in the input box, and select Submit. Participants may submit multiple different answers.

Note: Submitting the same word more than once is not permitted.

The auto-suggestion feature provides word suggestions when an entry matches a word that another participant submitted.

Note: Depending on the display size, some responses may not be shown in the Audience Web App or on the Projector Panel.

Word Cloud display and functionalities in the Admin Panel

In the Admin Panel's Allowed tab, Word Cloud answers display in descending order, from the highest number of submissions to the lowest.

  • The number next to each entry indicates the total times that word was submitted to the Word Cloud.
  • If the Anonymous answers setting is disabled, the names of the participants who submitted the word will appear directly below it.

You can also use the Admin Panel to preview the Word Cloud itself.

When Answer Filtering is enabled, all submitted responses display in the Pending tab. Answers that the admins allow move to the Allowed tab and are published to the Word Cloud in the Audience Web App. Answers that admins dismissed move to the Dismissed tab and do not appear in the Word Cloud.

Note: Answer Filtering is only available for Business, Engage, Captivate and Enterprise (Meetings & Events) Pigeonholes.

Admins have the ability to Edit answers to merge submissions that are spelled differently but have the same meaning. They can also Hide any answers that were previously allowed.
