What is Filtering and how does it work?

There are times when organisers of Q&A or Poll Open-ended sessions require greater control over the responses that are to be shown during the session. Pigeonhole Live allows for that with the Question Filtering feature in Q&As and answer filtering feature in Poll Open-ended sessions.

With Question or Answer Filtering, attendees will see a prompt informing them that their response is awaiting approval when they submit a question in a Q&A or an answer in a Poll Open-ended. Only the Admin Panel will show the pending response for admin action. The admins can then decide to approve (or edit the response and then approve), dismiss or leave the response pending. Once approved, the response will then be shown on all panels and on the Audience Web App.

When a question is dismissed, the question will never appear to the audience. It cannot be seen on the Audience Web App nor the Moderator and Projector Panels. The attendee who posted the question is not notified that his/her question has been dismissed.

When should I use Question or Answer Filtering?

This feature is useful when you wish to curate and control the content in the Q&A or Open-ended Poll. Some examples include:

  • Limiting questions to certain topics only

  • Maintaining a certain quality of the question content, editing any spelling or grammatical errors

  • Preventing offensive or inappropriate questions

Filtering essentially provides the ease of mind knowing you'll never be caught in a situation where an unwanted question is up on the Projector Panel or Audience Web App.

  2. Under Q&A Settings and Options click and enable Question filtering.
  3. Remember to scroll to the bottom of the page and click on Save Q&A to save your changes.
  4. Question Filtering is now enabled.

You may also enable Question filtering for your Q&A session on the Admin Panel by going to your Admin Panel > Q&A session > Controls and enable Question Filtering there

Moderating filtered questions or answers on the Admin Panel

When an attendee submits a question or answer when Question or Answer Filtering is enabled, the respective session on the Admin Panel will indicate that a new response is pending approval (see screenshot above.)

When the admin goes to Pending, they will be shown a list of all the pending responses awaiting their action. Here they can choose to do the following actions:

Allow

This moves the response to the Allowed section on the Admin Panel and will display it on the Audience Web App and Panels.

Dismiss Response is moved to the Dismiss section on Admin Panel and will NOT show on the Audience Web App or Panels.
Edit  Accessed via the More Settings buttonthe Admin will be able to edit the attendee's response for clarity, remove typos etc. The Admin can then choose to later Allow the response.
Archive Accessed via the More Settings button, archiving the response will move it to the Archive section on the Admin Panel. The response will not show on the Audience Web App or Panels.

Enabling Comment Filtering to moderate comments

If required, Admins can also choose to enable Comment Filtering on Q&As or Open-ended Polls. Similar to Question or Answer Filtering, all comments submitted by attendees will go through the same process of awaiting Admin approval before being shown on the Audience Web App and Panels.

To enable Comment Filtering:

  1. Go to your new or existing Q&A or Open-ended Poll session on Dashboard > Pigeonhole > Agenda.
  2. Under Q&A or Open-ended Poll Settings > Options click and enable Comment filtering (Note that Comments will need to be enabled first.)

Moderating filtered comments on the Admin Panel

When an attendee submits a comment when Comment Filtering is enabled, they will be informed that their comment is pending approval by the admin. The Admin Panel will then display indicators informing the admin of a new pending comment for admin action. Clicking inside Comments > Pending, the actions available to the admin will be similar to the ones found in Moderating Filtered Questions or Answers on the Admin Panel
